was
established in 1989 by Mary Darragh MacLean and Kathleen P. Pilus, who are both
nationally certified Sign Language interpreters. Each partner, individually, has more than 20
years of experience working throughout the region in every interpreting setting.
This experience, coupled with their expertise in interpreter coordination,
enables consumers as well as interpreters who subcontract with SLR to be
completely confident that the services provided will be of the highest quality.
We at Sign Language
Resources value
our customers and do what is necessary to ensure that customers' needs will be
met whenever possible. In addition, SLR maintains a positive relationship with a
large pool of subcontracting interpreters who represent us on assignments; 80%
of whom are nationally certified. As a result, SLR has been able to fill 95% of
all requests. An average month totals over 1,500 service hours, and is growing
all the time. Although SLR also has a small staff of 3 full time interpreters,
the majority is filled with subcontractors, with the staff covering
emergency requests and working on field related projects such as
Professional
Development
programs, a
Non-Profit
segment, and emergency scheduling.
SLR is
available to take requests 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
A
Deaf
Advisory Council
meets with staff regularly to advise SLR of ways to improve services, as well as
help SLR maintain a Deaf perspective on the business of providing Sign Language
interpreting services.
SLR provides a host of wonderful
Services.

"While many agencies subscribe to the “warm body” philosophy of placing
interpreters in assignments, SLR most assuredly does not. They go to great
lengths to ensure that the consumer/interpreter match is appropriate. Their
interpreters are well-prepared for each assignment, not only possessing the
right skills for the job, but also having been provided by SLR with the
necessary information in advance to go in and do their work effectively. In
addition, Sign Language Resources business practices are without reproach.
They place great emphasis on the value of the business relationship, both
with the interpreters they retain and the consumers they serve." -
Interpreter, Natalie Atlas
"I like SLR. They are doing a great job." -Consumer, Kathy Braue
"SLR, Inc. is a wonderful agency, and it has been an honor to have been
associated with you all. I wish you continued success in all you
undertake. The Deaf and interpreting communities are fortunate to have
you. Thanks for everything!" -Interpreter, B. Knudson
"Thanks
again for caring. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the support I've
received over the years from all of you at SLR." -Interpreter, Judy Jonas"
