slr-mentorship program - june/july/august 2021 cycle

We are concluding our June/July/August 2021 cycle – (total of 8 participants).

One pair that started their work together during the February/March/April 2021 cycle continued to work together in this current summer cycle. Another pair that worked together in this current cycle, are committed to continuing their work together in this upcoming cycle.

While COVID prevented any in person meetings - we did meet as a group via ZOOM; smaller meetings/check-in’s were conducted as well (also via ZOOM). COVID has certainly presented challenges in making the mentor/mentee experience productive and meaningful. However, mentor/mentee teams met on-line doing video work, discussed best business practices, talked about the challenges of interpreting on-line, and talked about how to best support each other during this difficult and isolating time.

To help foster a learning community among participants, Coordinator, Amy Rubinger frequently sent out information about on-line workshops and webinars. She also arranged a virtual tour of the American Kennel Club Museum of the Dog. Participants had the opportunity to interpret a museum tour in real time via ZOOM. Participants also took advantage of the option to join another mentor/mentee pair. This allowed them to practice teaming with the guidance of their mentors.

This is from a current mentee:

"This has been so beneficial as it gave me the confidence that I needed to apply, interview and be accepted into my local interpreting agency yesterday!! Woohoo!"

Applications for the October/November/December 2021 cycle will be mailed shortly. If you are interested in participating as a mentor or mentee, the applications are due September 24, 2021.

Any questions, please feel free to contact Amy Rubinger: amy@slrconnect.com
