SLR Mentorship Program Update - OCT/NOV/DEC 2023

We have come to a close of our October/November/December 2023 cycle. There were 3 mentor/mentee teams, a total of 6 participants.

Jana Owen who is a full time court interpreter and who works with a CDI everyday gave a presentation during our final meeting of the cycle on the linguistic and procedural considerations when doing legal/court room interpreting. We had the opportunity to ask many questions and it was a tremendous learning experience for all who attended.

A mentee participant said "Thank you again for asking Jana to host the talk/workshop, it was really thought provoking."

Two mentor/mentee pairs (who worked together in the previous cycle) chose to work together again.

Mentor and mentee team positive feedback:

"I am sincerely grateful for your superb decision to pair my mentee with me this summer.  He is a true gift.  His commitment and dedication, his willingness to improve, and his honesty is helping him develop into a fine colleague.  We have agreed to step out of the SLR-MP and continue our work on our own.  I know that if we later feel that a return to the supportive environment of the SLR-MP would benefit us, you will welcome us back with open arms."

"I just want to echo what my mentor said. This partnership has been a real blessing and I’m very thankful that you put the two of us together."

The new cycle is February/March/April 2024.
